Emotions colour our lives and connect us all as humans. We all experience emotions and the physiological changes which accompany them, but how do they affect cognitive functioning? Throughout my time at Queen’s as an undergraduate student, I’ve developed a keen interest in how emotions affect memory. For that reason, I will be conducting research under Dr. Poppenk’s supervision to investigate the factors involved in emotional memory for gist and detail. In addition to conducting research in the PopMem lab, I am a volunteer research assistant at the Culture and Cognition lab, where we examine how cultural differences and experiences influence cognition. When I’m not in Craine or Humphrey, I can be found volunteering at the Peer Support Centre, binge-watching Netflix, or pretending to have artistic skill as I colour Paint-by-Number “masterpieces.”
